Children at twenty schools and nurseries in Manchester are being exposed to illegal levels of damaging air pollution from diesel vehicles, a joint investigation by the Guardian and Greenpeace has revealed.
The analysis listed all schools and nurseries within 150 metres of a road where emissions of nitrogen dioxide are above the legal limit.
Those affected in Greater Manchester include William Hulme's Grammar School in Whalley Range, Great Moor Junior School in Stockport and Cottage Nursery in Eccles.
Jane Brophy and the Lib Dems protested against plans to decimate Greater Manchester's greenbelt on Saturday.
The rally in Albert Square was attended by protestors from across Greater Manchester.
"Labour and Conservative politicians are trying to force through this plan. There is another way. As Mayor I will scrap the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework and take a bottom-up approach to meeting our housing needs. We need local communities involved right from the start," said Jane.
